Imagine what would happen if a football coach was allowed to hand pick the referees for all of his games. What if he had the power to fire any referee who dared to call a foul against his team? Even the home crowd would be outraged by such a suggestion. It violates the whole premise of fair play. Read More...

Being a Transit Rider in Central Florida is not easy. Overcrowded buses, undependable service, constant cutting of fixed routes. Being a Bus driver in Central Florida is not easy. Frustrated passengers, unrealistic time points, cutting of wages and benefits. As the demand for more bus services grows, so should the funding for it. It's time to demand a public transit that will move us forward.

Please join the campaign for the people's transit movement to demand more funding for the public transit. Working people deserve a bus system that is dependable and accessible in Central Florida. Imagine not having to leave 2 hours early just to go across town for work. Imagine taking a bus home from the airport without having to be picked up. All this is possible and necessary for transit riders.

Please take a minute to sign the petition for dedicated funding and find out what transit riders want in Central Florida.
Please sign the petition now!

Democracy at Stake!
Imagine what would happen if a football coach was allowed to hand pick the referees for all of his games. What if he had the power to fire any referee who dared to call a foul against his team? Even the home crowd would be outraged by such a suggestion. It violates the whole premise of fair play. Now imagine giving anyone similar influence over the rulings issued by a court of law. That is exactly what some politicians and special interest groups are seeking, and it's up to us to cry foul.

Central Florida Jobs with Justice recently joined Democracy at Stake. It is a 501(c)3 organization, and that is committed to a program of research and education of Floridians aimed at protecting a fair and impartial court for Florida. They are sounding the wake-up call and urging Floridians to see the relentless assault on our Supreme Court for what it is - a calculated power grab.

Please go to www.DemocracyatStake.org to learn more about the merit retention process and how you can help protect fair and impartial courts for Florida. Floridians must not be fooled. Politics has no place in our courtrooms. Our Democracy is at stake.

Corporate Greed ! Is there an app for that?
On March 22nd, Central Florida JwJ, CWA local 3108 and the Central Florida AFL-CIO took part in a national day of action to support the 45,000 workers still without a contract. In June of 2011 contract negotiations began for the new contracts for 45,000 workers represented by Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) with Verizon Communications including the 70 Verizon Wireless workers in New York. The contracts cover workers from the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states: Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, DC.

Verizon made excessive, retrogressive demands that would cost each union represented employee $20,000 a year. VeriGreedy's demands would slash healthcare benefits; increase the costs for active employees and retirees; eliminate pensions for new employees and freeze pensions for current employees. These demands are made by a company making record profits and a company that gave its CEO a 200% pay increase, from $7 Million to $ 23.1 Million.

Central Florida showed a clear message of shame towards Verizon and showing solidarity with workers nationwide. Check out the video !

Central Florida building Leaders and Power in the South!
Over 33 community and labor activists came together in Central Florida for a National Jobs with Justice Leadership Training. This intense 3 day training provided a space for activists to learn the organizing skills and principles needed to win victories for workers rights. Leaders from around the state and region spent time collaborating and sharing their experiences in the fight for justice.

Central Florida Jobs with Justice would like to thank all the volunteers, donors and organizations that helped make this training possible. Without them, it couldn't have happened. Because of them, our movement for social and economic justice is stronger!
